I have so many memories of this game, primarily playing modem-to-modem games with my friend, and later on serial and LAN games. It was always superior to DooM and Heretic in my opinion. HeXeN! Oh how I love thee! It remains in my top 5 video games of all time.

Hexen: Beyond Heretic has an addon available: H!Zone, don't miss it! External links Whether it was just sloppy design, trying to hit a deadline or simply trying to keep the spirit of the old game, it did leave some of us wanting. However, when it came out, you could see clearly Raven had used Doom's engine (with some tweaks) and reused a lot of sprites and textures from the original Heretic game. Obviously, Hexen (just as no other abandoned game) should not be judged by today's standards. The story is quite simple, as much as stories in such games go: there is a big baddy, Korax, the second of the Serpent Riders (the first of whom dies in Heretic), who will do anything to stop you from killing him (can you blame him?)Įnter you, the Warrior, Mage or Cleric who will not stand for such madness and will dispatch any and all minions using a plethora of weapons: a close-range Axe, a throwing hammer and an exploding sword (for the warrior), a mace, a shooting staff, a burning spell and what looks like a crucifix that spits out forsaken souls, that kill the baddies (Cleric) and all sorts of wands and spells doing different types of damage (frost, electrical and. though it does feel short (in comparison with Heretic). Thank you for that.Heretic's sequel, Hexen: Beyond Heretic brings much more to the plate than its successful predecessor.Īs one of the first FPS games to introduce character classes, Hexen quickly became a fan favourite at LAN parties, due to its co-op mode, when played over the network.Īlso, unlike other games of that era, its level design was not as linear, which gave it an open world feeling to it. xbe file replaced with a patched version that doesn't automatically create UDATA folders for all. 1080i support is now disabled by default (because it slows the Xbox down if enabled). Updated Chimp261812 to JCRocky5's latest release.

Updated XBMC to include JCRocky5's 480p Game Loader scripts (useful if you have a 1.6 Xbox, otherwise it can be ignored). Partially rewrote the TSOP/modchip flash menus to make things more clear and to correct spelling/grammar. Corrected an error which prevented the sharp.bin BIOS file from being copied to the HDD. ind-bios.cfg now supports 480p by default. But with flashing in mind, there were some issues that should have been addressed, which were 1) editing the EvoX M8+ BIOS files to disable the need for a DVD drive on boot up (because it makes no sense to keep that restriction enabled) and 2) removing the ability to flash iND-BiOS 5004.06 (F only), since it is apparently broken and just bricks the TSOP/modchip. There's certainly a lot more that could be done, but I didn't feel like it was necessary to go all-out on it, since the disc is primarily just used for TSOP/modchip flashing and building new HDDs.
